“GBS-Plovdiv” Builds the First Armored Vehicle Factory in Bulgaria

The production facility spans 150,000 sq.m., with an investment of over 20 million BGN.

The first factory for armored vehicles in Bulgaria was inaugurated near Burgas. The production facility covers a substantial 150,000 sq.m. and is owned by the international company International Armored Group (IAG), specializing in the manufacture of armored vehicles.

The facility will produce defense equipment to the highest NATO standards, including various types of armored vehicles, drones for rescue, reconnaissance, and emergency teams, military recovery cranes, and patrol vehicles. The new factory will also manufacture the fourth generation of the RILA 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle. IAG supplies armored vehicles to state-level organizations, including the UN, NATO, and the Bundeswehr.

Construction of the facility began in March 2023, and the project was successfully completed by GBS-Plovdiv in just a year and a half. The investment in construction exceeds 20 million BGN, with the company set to provide over 300 jobs in the region. The opening of such a factory is part of Bulgaria's strategic efforts to develop the defense industry and enhance national security. In addition to supplying equipment for the Bulgarian armed forces, the facility also enables production and export of equipment to international markets.

Representatives from the construction executors included Svetoslav Lyubomirov, Executive Director of Glavbolgarstroy International and a member of the Supervisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, along with engineers Konstantin Zlatev and Dimitar Teliyev.
