Glavbolgarstroy inaugurated the most modern and technologically advanced racing circuit in the Balkans

The project near Samokov was completed in less than one year in partnership with Asarel-Medet

With a four-hour drift and motorcycle show, A1 Motor Park—the most modern and technologically advanced motorsport circuit for cars and motorcycles in the Balkans—officially opened on 21 March 2026. The facility signals its ambition to position itself among Europe’s leading motorsport destinations, thanks to its high-tech design, quality execution, and full compliance with the international standards of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).

The project’s investor and main contractor is the construction holding company Glavbolgarstroy, which delivered the facility in less than a year together with Asarel-Medet as partner and investor. The track extends across an area of approximately 350 decares, while the main construction and installation works were carried out within eight months, from March to November 2025.

Special addresses to the guests were delivered by Anna Nordkvist, FIA Vice President for Sport in Europe; Kalin Peshov, Chairman of the Management Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding; Eng. Kamen Peshov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding; Dimitar Tsotsorkov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Asarel-Medet; Zara Kiziryan, Project Manager of A1 Motor Park and CEO of GBS Energy Solutions; Sven Leufgen, CEO of A1 Motor Park; and Eng. Angel Dzhorgov, Mayor of the Municipality of Samokov.

“This facility has the potential to become a major sports hub for the region, capable of hosting major international competitions and testing sessions. I congratulate the project team on its successful delivery, as creating a track of this kind is never an easy task. A1 Motor Park will elevate Bulgaria to a high international level. On behalf of the FIA, I wish you every success and look forward to seeing the development of Bulgarian talent on the world stage,” commented Anna Nordkvist, FIA Vice President for Sport in Europe.

Kalin Peshov, Chairman of the Management Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the implementation of this significant project. He emphasized that the newly opened facility is unique of its kind and has the potential to place Bulgaria on the global motorsport map. In his remarks, he welcomed both enthusiasts and professionals to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the modern racing circuit and to turn it into a place for sport, development, and inspiration.

“You may have built thousands of square metres of gross floor area and hundreds of kilometres of highways, but when you do something for the first time, it is always difficult. The track we are standing on today has nothing in common with any of those projects and required us to master new technologies as we progressed. I would like to thank our colleagues, designers, and international consultants, who invested all their effort and expertise to ensure that this project was successfully delivered in less than a year,” said eng. Kamen Peshov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding.

“I am extremely proud of what I see and grateful to Glavbolgarstroy for inviting me to become a co-investor in this project. It is a source of pride for all of us because it embodies the philosophy and mission of Asarel-Medet and Glavbolgarstroy—to be socially engaged, to support local communities, and to develop the regions. Facilities like this unite us around the belief that we, as Bulgarians, can create projects of world-class standard,” said Dimitar Tsotsorkov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Asarel-Medet.

“We have built a facility that is a true source of pride for Bulgaria—a place where both amateurs and professionals can pursue their passion in a safe environment. This is a track designed with safety in mind—a track that saves lives. A dream that has now become reality. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this achievement—with it, we are opening a new chapter and beginning to write history,” said Zara Kiziryan, Project Manager of A1 Motor Park and CEO of GBS Energy Solutions.

“I could never have imagined that a project of this scale could be completed so quickly, or that it could be so impressive. Congratulations to all the companies that contributed their expertise to the delivery of the track, as well as to the main contractor,” said Sven Leufgen, CEO of A1 Motor Park.

“I would like to thank Kalin and Kamen Peshov—investors who not only invest capital, but create real added value. I am convinced that this is the result of the upbringing and values they carry—something clearly visible throughout the Samokov region. As an engineer, I would especially like to congratulate the builders for their exceptionally high-quality work—I am truly impressed by what has been achieved. And as mayor, I can proudly say that one of the best circuits in the Balkans is now located here. I am convinced that it will contribute to the development of the local economy, create new jobs, and further strengthen Samokov’s reputation as a city of sport,” said Eng. Angel Dzhorgov, Mayor of the Municipality of Samokov.

The event was officially opened by Bulgaria’s rising motorsport talent and current Formula 2 championship leader, Nikola Tsolov, who completed the track’s first official lap, while automotive journalists Ivan Tenchev and Momchil Manchev served as live commentators.

The programme continued with professional demonstrations featuring GT series cars, supercars, single-seater race cars, racing motorcycles, and drift performances by some of the most experienced bulgarian and international drivers and riders, showcasing the full potential of the new circuit.

With its opening, A1 Motor Park clearly stated its ambition to claim a place on the European motorsport map. The facility creates real conditions for Bulgaria to attract international interest and prestigious motorsport competitions. Days after the opening, the team behind A1 Motor Park announced open days from 25 March to 2 April 2026 for all interested visitors.

The track in numbers

During construction, 8,400 square metres of concrete pavement and 2,195 linear metres of kerbs were laid. More than 4,000 metres of drainage system and over 6,000 metres of electrical conduit network were installed. Around the facility, more than 70,000 square metres of green areas were developed. Advanced drainage systems, safety zones, protective barriers, and fencing were also installed in full compliance with the safety requirements of the international federations.

The construction process involved Bulgarian specialists and international consultants, and the circuit was surfaced with racing asphalt produced to a special formula developed with the assistance of Italian experts.

At the beginning of the year, the circuit was inspected by representatives of the FIA and FIM, who gave the facility high marks and confirmed that the track meets the requirements for hosting Formula 1 bolide testing sessions. In addition to Formula 1 testing, the circuit will also be able to host Formula 3 championship races as well as rounds of the Superbike World Championship.

The opening was also attended by representatives of Driven International, the company behind the development of the A1 Motor Park circuit alongside other international race tracks, as well as by the architects from IPA, who created the architectural identity of the facility.

The complex has a capacity of up to 30,000 spectators, with main grandstands along the start-finish straight, spectator zones around key corners, and VIP areas with panoramic views of the circuit. The infrastructure includes modern pit garages, a paddock, control tower, medical centre, restaurant, simulator and training areas, and a helipad, turning the venue into a comprehensive centre for motorsport and events.

The facility is not intended solely for professional drivers and competitions. Its calendar also includes track days, during which motorsport enthusiasts will be able to drive in a controlled and safe environment. In the project’s long-term vision, the complex is expected to offer opportunities for the training and development of future racing drivers, providing them with high-quality preparation and skills development.
