Partnerships with american construction, technology, and energy companies a priority for Glavbolgarstroy’s visit to the USA
Representatives of Glavbolgarstroy met with the leadership of the U.S. Nuclear Energy Institute to discuss nuclear energy as a reliable source for reducing Southeast Europe’s dependence on fossil fuel imports. This form of energy not only effectively reduces carbon dioxide emissions but also enables power systems to integrate a larger share of solar and wind energy.
The Bulgarian construction holding presented its priorities and focus regarding projects in the nuclear energy sector, including the construction of Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant using the AP1000 technology from the American company Westinghouse, as well as opportunities for building small modular reactors (SMRs) in the country.
For his part, the Executive Director of the U.S. Nuclear Institute, Carol Berigan, emphasized the importance of such projects and highlighted cooperation in the exchange of experience and expertise. This exchange is one of the main priorities of the energy institute, which unites over 350 organizations and companies. It is a leading American political and technological structure encompassing all aspects of the commercial nuclear industry.
During the visit to Washington, Glavbolgarstroy also held discussions with the energy giant Shell. The company works with numerous global suppliers to develop sustainable solutions for the electrification of ports and marine vessels. The aim of these solutions is to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency, and facilitate the transition to decarbonization. In this area, Glavbolgarstroy is currently implementing projects at two key ports in Bulgaria—those in Burgas and Varna.
Collaboration with various stakeholders and partners in the execution of large infrastructure projects in road construction, the railway sector, energy, and water infrastructure was discussed during talks between Glavbolgarstroy and the American Association of Contractors. The organization unites 27,000 member companies and is aimed at improving construction quality and protecting public interests. Its priorities include infrastructure development, energy and the environment, education and research, innovation and technology, workforce development, health and safety, as well as risk management.
During the meeting with the American Association of Contractors, the possibility of the Bulgarian company joining through its American subsidiary was also discussed.
