"GBS - Infrastructure Construction" is starting the construction of the second overpass over Bakarena Fabrika in Sofia. The project includes reinforcing the existing columns and building a three-lane bridge that will ease traffic in the northern districts of Sofia and connect "Vrabnitsa," "Nadezhda," and "Lyulin."
The start of construction was marked by Georgi Kichukov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, member of the Management Board, and CEO of "Glavbolgarstroy Infrastructure Construction," together with the mayor of the "Vrabnitsa" district, Rumen Kostadinov, Sofia's mayor Vasil Terziev, and deputy mayors Ivan Vasilev and Nikola Lyutov, who performed a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony at the site.
The project is valued at nearly 19 million BGN and is expected to be completed and operational by mid 2025. The length of the overpass will be 720 meters, and its structure will be made of reinforced concrete. In addition to the bridge construction, the nearby gas and water pipelines will be rerouted, and new street lighting will be installed. The bridge will be part of the development and construction of the third city ring, contributing to better connectivity in the city.
Traffic on the existing bridge will not be stopped to avoid disrupting the movement of residents in nearby neighborhoods. Once the construction is completed, the area will have two three-lane bridges, easing traffic and improving transportation flow.
