Representatives of Glavbolgarstroy Holding were among the participants in a two-day high-level meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) dedicated to the theme: "Mobilizing Industry: Catalyzing Global Network Infrastructure," which took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, in September 2024. The event brought together stakeholders and leaders from various industries, business organizations, and public authorities, uniting the efforts of different communities to shape policies under the aegis of the WEF. This included the Supply Chain and Transport Industry Community, the Industrial Clusters Supporting Transition Initiative, the First Movers Coalition, and the Zero Emission Road Transport Coalition.
The primary goal of the gathering was to provide the most up-to-date information on the progress in developing a sustainable, multi-fuel, and multimodal infrastructure network, in line with the needs of the global transition to a safer, cleaner, and more inclusive transport system. The conclusions drawn from the discussions in Gothenburg will form the basis of a draft report, which will be presented at the next annual WEF meeting in Davos in early 2025.
As a partner from the construction sector, Glavbolgarstroy emphasized the crucial role the industry plays in providing the necessary infrastructure to meet the needs of emerging technologies in the transport sector in a sustainable and timely manner. In fact, the adoption of all currently available innovative solutions for transport and the careful monitoring of upcoming trends will ensure infrastructure that supports a vibrant, cross-sectoral green transition. In this debate, it is worth noting that a significant share of CO2 emissions generated by the construction industry comes from the transportation of raw materials or ready-to-use products from their extraction and production sites to construction sites. To address this challenge, GBS has invested in deploying a mobile installation for recycling construction and demolition waste, aimed at providing technological solutions to process such materials directly at the sites where they are generated, thus reducing additional transport emissions.
At the WEF event in Sweden, discussions also focused on how various models of public-private partnerships have been strengthened over the years and how WEF initiatives, including the "First Movers" Coalition, can generate additional joint ventures at local, regional, national, and global levels. "First Movers" was launched during COP26 as a partnership between the World Economic Forum and the U.S. President’s Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry. It represents a global coalition of companies dedicated to decarbonizing the world’s high-emission sectors. Currently, the initiative is the world’s largest private sector demand signal for emerging climate technologies, bringing together 96 companies with a total of 121 commitments across seven sectors. These commitments are expected to generate an annual demand of $16 billion for emerging green and sustainable technologies by 2030, as well as an annual reduction of 31 million tons (Mt) of CO2 emissions.
Since 2023, Glavbolgarstroy has been a proud partner of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and actively contributes to its initiatives.
