Glavbolgarstroy embraces GFCC’s Call to Action – Innovate the sustainable future

The Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC) launched a Call to Action – Innovate the Sustainable Future during its Annual Meeting and Global Innovation Summit, which took place in London in November 2023. As a member of the Washington-based organization, Glavbolgarstroy participated in the final discussions on the document, alongside representatives from more than 20 countries, including the USA, Great Britain, Qatar, Japan, Greece, Canada, Romania, Ireland, Australia, and France. Together, they outlined the prospects for the construction and energy industry in Europe. Representatives from universities, research institutions, business organizations, government structures, and political leaders also shared their positions on the topic.

GFCC members shared their experiences and examples of sustainable practices and projects implemented by the institutions they represent. Glavbolgarstroy presented one of its leading initiatives in the field of sustainable development and the circular economy in the construction sector. This initiative aims to introduce new practices in the construction waste management process through the international research project MOBICCON-PRO. The project is implemented by a consortium of 10 European organizations from Bulgaria, France, Belgium, Denmark, and Serbia, with Glavbolgarstroy serving as the coordinator.

The key recommendations of the Call to Action are organized in three domains - Resources, People, and Systems - and 10 critical areas: 1. Boost the productivity of natural resources. 2. Seize the energy transition opportunity. 3. Incorporate sustainability as a key criterion for infrastructure development. 4. Adopt sustainable consumption and production models. 5. Promote well-being to empower communities to achieve their full potential. 6. Invest in skills development to enable people to access economic opportunities. 7. Couple the expansion of R&D with translation and dissemination. 8. Focus on data and principles for sustainability governance and management. 9. Use novel financial architectures to mobilize resources for sustainable investment. 10. Leverage education to forge a future sustainability-oriented mindset.
