“Glavbolgarstroy” Joined the Global Leaders Dialogue in Davos
In the autumn of 2023, "Glavbolgarstroy" officially became part of the World Economic Forum network. As the forum's sole representative from Bulgaria, the company committed to actively participating in discussions on topics such as the future and competitiveness of the industry, the transition to reliable energy sources, the integration of modern and highly efficient technologies, and the adoption of best global practices and engineering approaches in the execution of large-scale projects in the construction sector. With these topics on its agenda, the company joined the activities of the forum's "Energy and Materials Center," which leads dozens of global initiatives and is one of the organization’s most dynamic and fast-growing structures.
As a member of the World Economic Forum network and the UN Global Compact, representatives of "Glavbolgarstroy" actively participated in international leadership meetings held during the Annual Meeting in Davos. The discussions in Switzerland provided a platform for idea exchange among leading figures from various sectors, who expressed their readiness to collaborate on long-term solutions to address key economic challenges.
"Glavbolgarstroy's" involvement in debates on investments in technology and innovation underscored the company’s strategic commitment to implementing modern technologies, seeking cost-effective and industry-applicable solutions, and supporting initiatives such as workforce training, addressing labor shortages in Europe, and promoting economic growth.
During the visit to Davos, Kalin Peshov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, participated in a high-level strategic meeting organized by the UN Global Compact Network. The meeting included leaders from various economic sectors who discussed challenges faced by businesses in the current geopolitical situation. Participants shared diverse visions and practical approaches that form the basis of business strategies for some of the companies represented at the Annual Meeting.
A bilateral working meeting was also held with Antonio Hautle, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Topics discussed included the role of the private sector in driving economic growth through the application of UN Global Compact principles, technological advancements in the construction industry, and the long-term economic benefits of investments in efficient solutions and projects. Discussions also touched on the prospects of adopting good practices in financial management and transparency, which would undoubtedly enhance business competitiveness while generating economic benefits for local communities.
In the context of deepening trade relations between Bulgaria and India, meetings were held with representatives from Tamil Nadu, India's second-largest state with a GDP exceeding $323 billion for 2023–24, as showcased at the Davos forum. Discussions highlighted the growing trade exchange between the "Glavbolgarstroy" group and Indian companies and explored opportunities to further strengthen and expand its network of business partners.
Kalin Peshov shared the group’s commitment to building long-term international partnerships, noting that the company has successfully procured goods from India for energy infrastructure projects. He expressed readiness to expand this collaboration, emphasizing the importance of efficiency, reliability, and mutual economic benefits. The regional advantages of the strategically significant state of Tamil Nadu were also presented, with a focus on substantial investments in the development of highly skilled professionals. It was emphasized that through targeted programs and collaboration with businesses, India is preparing young people to transition seamlessly into real professional environments.
In Davos, the Bulgarian construction holding also met with Piet Demunter, Executive Director of the Belgian Investment and Trade Agency. During the discussions, Plamena Nenkova, Deputy Executive Director of "International Relations and Business Development," presented the activities of "Glavbolgarstroy’s" Brussels office, as well as the company’s membership in numerous European associations and initiatives that play a key role in the EU legislative process and in voicing the industry's perspective. Information was also shared about the company’s participation in international research projects funded by EU grants for the development of new technologies and materials.
