Glavbolgarstroy Joins the Construction of a Key Gas Pipeline in Croatia

The company will support the implementation of the Zlobin-Bosiljevo gas pipeline, which will allow the transportation of gas from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in Krk to countries in Central and Southeast Europe.

Earlier this month, Glavbolgarstroy signed a contract with a consortium led by the company "Monter-Stroynarska Montaza" for the construction activities of the key gas pipeline in Croatia, Zlobin-Bosiljevo. This strategic section is 58 km long and is financed by the Croatian national budget. It will enable the key LNG terminal in Krk to reach its technical capacity of 3.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The floating LNG terminal is located in the municipality of Omišalj on the island of Krk, Croatia. It holds geopolitical and strategic significance in the context of strengthening the European energy market and enhancing the security of gas supplies for EU countries, especially for the states of Central and Southeast Europe, which are focused on securing new and reliable sources and delivery routes. This project is of strategic importance for the European Union and is included in the EU's list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI), for which €101.4 million in grants has been allocated.

The Zlobin-Bosiljevo pipeline, in turn, is located 70 kilometers southwest of Zagreb and will also be suitable for the transport of hydrogen. Its construction is necessary for the further expansion of the Bosiljevo-Sisak-Kozarac pipeline, aiming to increase the gas transmission capacity to Hungary to 400,000 m³/h, as well as the expansion of the Lučko-Zabok section of the Croatia-Slovenia interconnector, which aims to increase the gas transmission capacity to Slovenia to 170,000 m³/h. Thus, the pipeline will not only meet the energy needs of Croatia under the most challenging delivery and consumption circumstances but will also ensure additional supplies of natural gas for Hungary and Slovenia.

The construction of the gas pipeline is expected to be completed by 2025.
