Glavbolgarstroy presented its scientific construction developments and sustainable solutions at the world forum COP28

During the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), the largest construction company in Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy, presented a portion of its international innovative and sustainable projects in the construction sector. Following the official opening of the Bulgarian pavilion, Eng. Kamen Peshov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, presented the ambitious construction solutions that the company is developing in collaboration with leading Western European universities, global manufacturers of technological equipment, European sector associations, public authorities, and more. The projects are focused on three main directions: circular economy in construction, energy efficiency, and the production and consumption of green energy.

In the panel discussion on the topic "Climate-friendly Scientific Solutions - Technologies and Innovations: Artificial Intelligence, Satellite Technology, Data, Clean Energy, Carbon-neutral Industries," Plamena Nenkova, Deputy Executive Director of Glavbolgarstroy in the Department of International Relations and Business Development, provided details on the three scientific developments. According to her, a commitment to achieving climate goals should be a top priority for all large businesses. She stated, "We value and deeply appreciate our partnership with academia in the development, testing, and effective implementation of innovative technologies and solutions that significantly optimize production processes and reduce their environmental impact. Construction is one of the sectors of the economy with the greatest potential for achieving effective results and implementing real projects in a short period of time, contributing to the 'circular' transition."

The event's attendees were introduced to the main principles and goals set in the construction materials recycling projects: MOBBICON-PRO, NRG-STORAGE, and the pilot hydrogen plant, which is planned to be built and operated on the territory of the underground gas storage facility "Chiren."

The "MOBICCON-PRO" concept is funded under the EU's largest research program, "Horizon Europe," and the project involves the collaboration of 10 partners from various parts of Europe. Its aim is to construct a mobile facility for the production of high-end recycled construction products and materials. "NRG-STORAGE," in which Glavbolgarstroy once again plays a leading role, focuses on the development of an innovative and exceptionally lightweight insulation material that will revolutionize the perception of insulation in non-residential buildings. The so-called "NRG-Foam" claims to achieve 25% better insulation capacity, 10% higher energy storage capacity, and 10% higher watertightness and airtightness, thus reshaping perceptions of insulation materials.

The latest project presented by the Bulgarian construction leader involves the production and utilization of green hydrogen for technological needs at the Chiren underground gas storage facility. In September of this year in Washington, Glavbolgarstroy, along with US technology giants Solar Turbines (Caterpillar), Honeywell, and Bulgarian gas operator Bulgartransgaz EAD, signed a memorandum of understanding for an international project that demonstrates the synergy between renewable electricity, hydrogen, and natural gas. This project is now underway, with the pilot plant in Chiren aiming to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the country's only gas storage facility.

Representatives from institutions, businesses, and academia also participated in the discussion dedicated to climate-friendly scientific solutions. The World Forum will continue until December 12, with delegates from 200 countries participating and an expected attendance of over 70,000 people.
