Glavbolgarstroy takes part in the Eurogas Annual Renewable Gas Conference in Brussels

On 2 July, Glavbolgarstroy (GBS) took part in the Eurogas Annual Renewable Gas Conference in Brussels, reaffirming its interest in Europe’s clean energy transition. Federico Nahuel Lazzari, Director of GBS’ Brussels Office, attended the event, which brought together more than 350 participants from EU institutions, national administrations, industry, and the research community to discuss the future of renewable gases in Europe.

This year’s event was titled “From ambition to action: delivering on the EU’s 2030 targets for renewable gases”, and the discussions focused on the deployment and integration of renewable and low-carbon gases, such as biomethane and clean hydrogen, as essential components of the EU’s decarbonisation strategy. In the context of growing demand for sustainable, secure, and affordable energy sources, the event served as a platform to explore pragmatic pathways for scaling up green gas infrastructure across the continent.

The discussions addressed several issues that are of direct interest to GBS and the broader construction and infrastructure sectors. One of the central themes was the role of renewable and low-carbon gases in decarbonising energy-intensive industries such as steel and cement, which are closely linked to the construction value chain. The availability of clean alternatives to fossil-based energy is expected to have a significant impact on both supply chains and the carbon footprint of building materials.

Another key session focused on the scaling-up of biomethane production in the EU and the need for coherent regulatory frameworks to support its development. The panellists underlined the importance of integrating biomethane into the European gas grid, creating favourable conditions for investment, and streamlining permitting procedures. These topics are especially relevant for GBS, given the Group’s involvement in large-scale infrastructure projects where clean energy integration and long-term sustainability are becoming increasingly important design and procurement criteria. Furthermore, the conference explored the role of market design and trading mechanisms in supporting renewable gas development. Discussions included perspectives from global energy companies, carbon market experts, and clean energy investors, who shared insights on how to develop bankable business models for biomethane and hydrogen.

The final session highlighted best practices in renewable gas project development across Europe and North America, which provide valuable lessons on the importance of cross-sector collaboration, innovation, and regulatory clarity.

By attending the conference, GBS had the opportunity to follow the latest policy and market developments around renewable gases, connect with leading figures in the energy and construction sectors, and strengthen its visibility within the Brussels policy community. Taking part in this kind of discussion helps GBS stay informed, build new partnerships, and ensure its work remains aligned with the direction of Europe’s green transition.
