Glavbolgarstroy wins five awards at the “Building of the Year 2025” Competition
Glavbolgarstroy was honoured with five prestigious awards at the annual national Building of the Year 2025 competition, held on December 16 in Sofia. In front of nearly 600 representatives of the construction industry, the companies GBS – Plovdiv and Glavbolgarstroy AD received distinctions in some of the most highly contested categories.
Swimming Complex with a 50-Metre Pool – First Prize in the “Social Infrastructure – Sports” Category
The new swimming facility features an Olympic-size pool measuring 50 by 25 metres, with a total water capacity of 2,800 cubic metres. It includes two spectator stands with 1,006 seats, as well as modern ancillary facilities. The complex fully complies with the requirements of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the European Aquatics Federation (LEN) for hosting international competitions.
On behalf of GBS – Plovdiv AD, the project contractor, the award was accepted by Eng. Dimitar Telliev, Executive Director of the company, who expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on projects of significant public value for the city of Plovdiv.
Cyclotron Complex for the Production of Radiopharmaceuticals – First Prize in the “Social Infrastructure – Healthcare” Category
The Cyclotron Complex for the production of radiopharmaceuticals in the town of Panagyurishte won first prize in the Social Infrastructure – Healthcare category. The award was accepted on behalf of GBS – Plovdiv AD, the project contractor, by Eng. Dimitar Kalamov, Production Director at the company. The facility is equipped with a 16.5 MeV cyclotron manufactured by General Electric, which will produce key radiopharmaceuticals such as Oxygen-15.
BILLA Bulgaria Logistics Centre – First Prize for a High-Tech Logistics Building in the “Logistics Buildings” Category
The BILLA Bulgaria Logistics Centre in the village of Zagore received first prize for a high-tech logistics building in the Logistics Buildings category. The project was constructed by GBS – Plovdiv AD, and the award was accepted on behalf of the company by Dimitar Karamitrev, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors and Director of Investor Relations.
“We thank the jury for the high recognition and the award for this project. The true winner here is the client, who succeeded in achieving the best possible outcome from all parties involved in the construction process. I encourage everyone in the sector to be bold, in order to demonstrate that Bulgaria is a great place to invest and that there are capable professionals who can successfully deliver such ambitious projects,” Mr. Karamitrev said during the award ceremony.
The facility is equipped with a full, latest-generation Building Management System (BMS). Energy-efficient and environmentally friendly materials were used in the construction process. The logistics centre has been certified at the highest level — Outstanding — under the international BREEAM sustainability standard.
ORNO Logistics Centre – Award for a Modern and Highly Efficient Logistics Facility in the “Logistics Buildings” Category
The ORNO Logistics Centre received first prize for a modern and highly efficient logistics facility in the Logistics Buildings category. The building is designed across two levels and includes adjacent administrative, service, and loading/unloading areas, as well as pedestrian access routes tailored to staff and workforce flows.
The project was developed on a site covering 11,533 sq m, with a total gross floor area exceeding 5,500 sq m. It integrates advanced technical solutions and energy-efficient systems. The award for the project contractor GBS – Plovdiv AD was accepted by the company’s Executive Director, Eng. Konstantin Zlatev.
“I accept this award with great respect and on behalf of the entire GBS Plovdiv team. I thank them for their professionalism and commitment throughout the entire construction process, which enabled us to turn the client’s vision into reality,” Eng. Zlatev addressed the audience.
Smart Tower – Winner in the “Residential Buildings over 20,000 sq m GFA” Category
The winner in the Residential Buildings over 20,000 sq m GFA category was the Smart Tower residential complex in Sofia. The award was accepted on behalf of the project contractor Glavbolgarstroy AD by the company’s Executive Director, Iroslav Neychev.
The project stands out as the first branded residence in Bulgaria, located at a prime location in Sofia, just metres from commercial buildings, parks, and the city centre. Smart Tower comprises 175 residential units with panoramic views and abundant natural light, Class A office space, a reception and lobby area, a restaurant with a garden, café and bar, SPA and fitness centre, beauty studio, yoga and Pilates studio, children’s centre, supermarket, dry-cleaning service, playground, and an underground parking facility with more than 450 parking spaces.
