Strategic visit of Glavbolgarstroy to the United States

As part of a key visit by the Bulgarian construction holding company to the United States this week, a series of strategic meetings and discussions were held with representatives of leading American businesses.

Global technology leaders Honeywell, General Electric, Caterpillar and Microsoft hosted meetings with representatives of Glavbolgarstroy, during which both ongoing strategic projects currently underway in Bulgaria and future specific strategic initiatives and ventures were discussed.

The Bulgarian construction holding company has been partnering for decades with leading technology company Honeywell and industry giant Caterpillar (Solar Turbines) in the implementation of geostrategic energy projects. These projects have made a significant contribution to ensuring the country's energy security, enhancing the efficient connectivity of energy networks, and developing energy markets.

During the visit to Washington, D.C., in addition to discussing ongoing joint projects, representatives of the Bulgarian company outlined concrete steps with Honeywell for future collaboration in the country, specifically in the development of battery energy storage system solutions.

With Solar Turbines, Glavbolgarstroy discussed their joint projects in the field of gas infrastructure, through which 21 low-emission turbines from the American company, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, have been delivered and installed in Bulgaria. Future cogeneration projects were also explored, offering practical solutions for the Bulgarian industry.

For several years, Glavbolgarstroy has been in discussions with General Electric regarding potential future collaboration in nuclear energy and the sustainable energy transition. During these discussions, representatives of the American corporation’s leadership shared insights into the continuously growing global demand for their technological solutions, which currently exceeds their production capacity.

Discussion with American Businesses and Strategic Investors

During a roundtable held in Washington, organized by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), key aspects of energy security, investment opportunities, and Bulgaria’s future energy projects were discussed. The event attracted the attention of investors and energy sector experts, who explored the country’s strategic priorities and its potential as a regional leader in energy for Southeastern Europe. A special guest at the event was the Minister of Energy, Mr. Zhecho Stankov, who presented the priorities of the new Bulgarian government in the energy sector. The discussion also focused on the investment climate in the country.

Kalin Peshov, Chairman of the Management Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, highlighted the significant investment opportunities in Bulgaria. He emphasized that the country is home to a large number of key investors across various economic sectors, providing substantial capital for the development of infrastructure, industrial, and other projects.

Discussions with Representatives of the U.S. Political and Administrative Sectors

During a meeting held at the U.S. House of Representatives, Kalin Peshov and Plamena Nenkova, Deputy Executive Director for International Relations and Business Development at Glavbolgarstroy Holding, met with Congressman Troy Balderson, a member of the Republican Party, to discuss Bulgaria’s energy landscape and the current challenges facing the sector in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region.

Congressman Balderson, who serves as Chairman of the Congressional Energy Action Team and represents the state of Ohio, has been a key advocate for U.S. energy independence, the development and implementation of energy innovations, and is one of the leading Republican voices on a broad range of energy-related issues.

Participation in the 6th Delphi Economic Forum in Washington

As part of its visit to the United States and participation in the 6th annual Delphi Economic Forum in Washington, the leadership of the Bulgarian construction holding company engaged in discussions with both current and former representatives of the U.S. administration.

The development of major energy projects in Bulgaria, as well as the progress of the construction of Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant—a project in which Glavbolgarstroy is the leading local partner of South Korean construction giant Hyundai—were key topics of discussion with Francis Fannon, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources (2018–2021), and Geoffrey Pyatt, who has held the same position since 2022.

These and other strategic initiatives in Bulgaria and the Balkan region were also addressed during the energy panel of the Delphi Forum in the U.S.. During the discussion, Kalin Peshov emphasized the company’s active role in implementing the Vertical Gas Corridor, as well as key challenges in the construction and energy sectors, particularly related to workforce shortages, specialized education, and access to highly skilled experts and engineers.

During the forum, Kalin Peshov also met with Jerry Moran, a Republican Senator from Kansas. Peshov presented the company’s activities and strategic projects and extended an invitation for him to visit Bulgaria.
