Nature of works

Design and construction of 16.46 km of road I-8 Kalotina - Sofia Ring Road in the section between Slivnitsa and Sofia Ring Road from km 32+447.20 to km 48+903.
The motorway section under construction is part of project BG16M1OP001-2.001-0005 Europa Motorway from km 15+500 to km 48+903, financed with funds from the Cohesion Fund of the European Union through the Operational Program "Transport and Transport Infrastructure" 2014-2020. The route is part of the main trans-European transport network and is in the direction of London - Budapest - Belgrade - Sofia - Plovdiv - Istanbul - the shortest route connecting Western Europe with the Near and Middle East. The "Kalotina" - Sofia border crossing section provides a connection to the trans-European corridor "Orient/Eastern Mediterranean".
The section will have two traffic lanes in each direction and an emergency stop lane.
The construction of the road section will improve the cross-border connection between Bulgaria and Serbia and complete the highway network along the west-east direction on Bulgarian territory. With the construction of the section, travel time will be reduced and comfortable and safe traffic conditions will be provided.
