Project

Swimming Complex with a 50-Meter Pool

Contracting Authority
Plovdiv Municipality
Period of implementation
1 year and 7 months - from 21.04.2023 until 20.12.2024
Glavbolgarstroy’s role in the project
Main Constructor: "GBS - PLOVDIV" AD
Nature of works

A change was made during the construction, and a new design solution for the construction of the swimming pool was adopted. A new modern technological facility with a complete structure with reduced dead weight was installed, which reflects the most modern trends in the construction of similar sports facilities.

The construction is a complex facility for swimming sports in combination with the existing limited terrain for volumetric and spatial construction. Connections have been created with the existing buildings, improving the functioning of both them and the newly built swimming complex.

Technical characteristics

The swimming complex with a 50-meter pool consists of two blocks:

BLOCK B - is the main building, containing an Olympic-sized swimming pool and two stands, northern and southern.

BLOCK A - administrative part and includes:

- Level 0.00 - hall with separate entrances, cash desks and lobbies, as well as access to stands - a total of 1004 seats.

- Auxiliary premises, where all types of sanitary and service rooms, changing rooms for athletes and coaches, cafes, a fitness room for training athletes, technical and storage rooms are located.

Second partial level: sanitary facilities, changing rooms, administrative offices, rooms for technical maintenance and HVAC machines and equipment and an entrance to an existing building with an existing pool.

POOL TECHNOLOGY

On today's market, Myrtha is simply the most modern and reliable technology for building swimming pools. The panels it uses are made of stainless steel, which wall panels and gutters are completely bolted together and there is not a single weld. This technology is stronger from a mechanical point of view and is not affected by stress corrosion.

The stainless steel is protected - through a hot lamination process - on the inside with very hard PVC, and on the reverse side - with a transparent foil, which protects the panels even in the most aggressive soil conditions.

The pool is rectangular and has Olympic dimensions of 50 meters, 25 meters wide and 2.00 to 2.50 meters deep. Water purification is carried out through two overflows (overflow chutes) located on its two long sides. The two short sides are raised starting platforms at a height of 30 cm above the water level, on which starting blocks are installed. A mechanical movable double barrier is installed in the pool, which allows for different configurations to be achieved according to the current need. There are 10 swimming lanes with a width of 2.50 m.

In the Myrtha pool, the connection between the wall structure and the concrete floor (much thinner and less reinforced than in the concrete pool) is made with a steel main frame, connected to the concrete by strong chemical anchors. The result is a very stable free-standing pool tank, fixed to the concrete but structurally independent.

The pool is equipped with everything necessary for training and competitions.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognizes the International Swimming Federation (FINA) for the international governance of aquatic sports. As such, FINA has outlined the specifications of an Olympic pool.
